Club History
The Triangle & Western Model Railroad Club was formally organized on March 26th, 1969 when a group of six HO scale model
railroaders and one hobby shop owner met. It appeared that none of those modelers enjoyed the pleasure of having available
space in their respective homes to develop their railroad empire, thus the idea of joining together and establishing a club
was born. The choosing of a name was relatively simple; four of the modelers modeled prototype railroads in the east, each
serving the same three state area, one modeled a large western prototype road thus forming a triangle with the western influence.
The present layout is the club's second. It depicts a mainline that starts in Baltimore, MD and snakes through the Allegheny
mountains and ends at Pittsburgh, PA. The track is primarily code 83 flex track, however, the origional hand laid code 70
track is still in operation on a spur off the branchline. The mainline is double track except for a small portion that goes
through the Allegheny's.
The club owns approximately two hundred pieces of rolling stock and a dozen locomotives, primarily diesel. During our
annual open house event, the majority of the equipment being operated belongs to the various members. They have taken great
pride in their modeling work and Open House serves to display their workmanship.
